so the whole point is to plant the idea in sherlock’s mind that his world is not real, because he thinks he’s still dreaming in reality
what if ‘a scandal in belgravia’ was the first level? everyone is asleep at 221B Baker Street and Mrs. Hudson is monitoring (hey, would she be the chemist if she provided the tea laced with sedative lol). irene adler would be the one to stay behind in this first level to set up the ‘kick’ which would be….i don’t know, the plane that was supposed to explode?
‘the hounds of baskerville’ would be the second level. i should probably mention that sherlock must ‘solve’ these cases because he’s entirely too clever and the cases are to make sure he thinks he’s awake. henry knight would be the one to generate the ‘kick.’
and of course, ‘the reichenbach fall’ is the last level. moriarty is the best in the dreamsharing field and was hired to make sure sherlock kills himself to wake up. he shoots himself to make sure the illusion stays real, and goes into limbo. john sticks around long enough to watch sherlock make the jump before going down to limbo to save moriarty.
obviously, the song they all sync to is ‘staying alive.’

sherlock/inception crossover: sherlock’s gone to deep, too far caught up in his dreamscape, his wars and his urban battlefields that he’s forgotten what’s real; even forgotten where the dream began. it’s an endless world of cases and it’s perfect for him: able to do experiments and never permanently injure anyone. john had warned him, told him about the dangers of too many levels of consciousness and all that, but sherlock wouldn’t be sherlock if he had listened. mycroft wouldn’t normally involve himself with minor retrieval cases, but this is his little brother we’re talking about and nothing is going to stand in his way. they’ve got the best team on hand, and they are going to get him back, no matter what.
